Abstract: The main objective of this research project proposes the implementation of iterative algorithms to optimize the design of microwave passive structures whose electromagnetic behavior is simulated using modal methods. Thus, it aims is to integrate these electromagnetic simulation methods in the modal automated design processes of passive microwave devices, this integration enjoying huge interest. Of the various optimization techniques of existing devices, the objective of this project is to implement and investigate the technique known as spatial mapping, whose distinguishing feature is that it avoids the optimized design of the devices by the continued use of the simulation tools electromagnetic previously mentioned, that are very rigorous but traditionally they have a high computational cost, using for this purpose a second tool that models the behavior of electromagnetic devices to design with less accuracy but also very efficiently (low computational cost). This novel technique has recently been applied successfully to the optimal design of three-dimensional structures in rectangular waveguide (elbows and multistage guide transformers), and interdigital filter in printed technology. In the present research project, the aforementioned spatial mapping technique will be validated by its application to the optimized design for rectangular waveguide diplexers in space applications, devices enjoying enormous interest in the aerospace sector.
